Found this thread this evening - it's interesting because I have the same problem. I got a big order of parts from ZPower last year, and got a shim tool too because I knew I'd need it eventually... so today I tried to use it and have exactly the same problem as described by a few others (no I haven't got the cam cover gasket fitted). The pointy end does not reach the bucket, and on several valves the tool won't fit at all (the curvy bit is too thick and comes up against the inside of the cambox.

So I shall be calling Phil on Monday morning...

I used to have a genuine one years ago but I think I lent it to someone and never got it back :roll:

Have to say that i have a couple of those genuine Kawa shim tools and never use them.
I prefer the 'W' type that just slips under the cam and sits on the edge of the bucket.
Much quicker to use and easy to make one yourself from a small piece of 1mm steel sheet.
Also doesn't mark the head if it's painted.
