Bunging up Air intake holes in MKII Head

#1 PostAuthor: Pigford » Sun Nov 30, 2014 4:25 pm

So I've fitted the nice round cam cover on me MKII motor..... but this now leaves me with a problem of blocking the air intakes for the Emission control

What do you guys reckon will work - without any major engineering or removing the head :!:

Hi-Temp RTV silicon maybe? The only real issue (as I see it) will be HEAT.

As you know that hole leads directly into the exhaust port so just tap a thread partial way down and Loctite a grub screw in it. ( bit of threaded bar offcut with a slot in the end to take a screwdriver will do the trick.
Make sure the corresponding ex valve is closed so the swarf doesn't get in the cylinder.
The hole should take an M10 tap directly without any additional drilling.
You could also turn up some press in blanking plugs instead but if they are made too tight a fit they can crack the head so the grub screw method is better in my experience and easier to reverse if needed.
