Can anyone tell me if the rumours are true that the bevel gear unit from a Mk2 shaft will fit STD 1000 cases?

Bevel unit will only fit the MK2 type square cam cover motors cases.
Inner cover is a different shape bolt pattern towards the rear of the motor so won't fit the earlier cases up to around 78/79.
