Z1 valve seal replacement
Hi … I need to renew my valve oil seals on a Z1A …The head is off and has been vapour blasted … not done valve seals before, do I need any special tools ? any tips / videos would be handy
Re: Z1 valve seal replacement
Just need a valve compressor at the least, which I presume you already have as you surely didn't have the head blasted with the valves in ?
Pop the seals on by hand with a bit of assembly lube or oil on them to help them slip on.
Lube the guides and valve stems and slide them in with a twist as they go through the seal to avoid ripping the sealing edge and refit the springs ect and job done.
Valves and seats may benefit from a light lap depending on condition especially if they have been blasted.

Tip nicked from another forum to avoid damaging the seal lip. Use plenty of lube also.

Thanks for the tips ……. yes valves / seals all removed before vapour blast …. as I need new top end gaskets & seals would it be cheaper to buy a gasket set ( are valve seals included ) oh and of course I need #3 exhaust valve to replace the bent one

Valve seals are included in the gasket sets, but are not reputed to be up to scratch. Suzuki Performance Spares stock good Viton replacements for a reasonable price.
Are you sorted with a valve?
Cheers,

I recently replaced my stem seals and was advised to go genuine.

I have the Viton ones from Suzuki performance spares in mine, no problems with them, also have 2 sets from gasket sets just sitting in a box.
Re: Z1 valve seal replacement
thanks for the tips …… seems I have some exhaust valve seats that are pitted too much to lap out and will need cutting ….. probably a bit specialized with the tool to match ….. any contacts in the north east for this

I don't know anyone in the north east but Dave Ennis, Buzzard on here does bloody good work, he is west London based and has done my thou head and more recently an XS650 one, turn around is quick, postage cost me around £30 there and back for the yamaha head but my packaging weighed more than the head.
