Does anyone know what the advantages are to fitted the APE extra friction plate clutch kit are? I have converted to a hydraulic clutch and noticed it slipping
when high in revs. Is there a real benefit or would std plates be OK with maybe heavier springs?

Have you measured the springs to see if they’re within service limits? What sort of state of tune is your engine in?

Was the clutch slipping before you fitted he hydraulic conversion?
It might be that you haven't taken enough of the clutch pushrod.

I'm guessing there's an extra - fibre plate in the APE kit ..probably another steel one too.....under normal mildish tuning a Std clutch in reasonable condition is fine & will take quite a few extra H.P. before it starts letting go & slipping & if it's an old tired OEM clutch " not so " . If you have Std plates measure the thickness of the fibre ones with a Micrometer against the OEM manuals spec service limits. If its APE plates contact them for Fibre plate service limit dimensions.
I take it your Clutch Springs are all within service limit length too ? & your not using a 'Full Synth Oil' that doe's not meet JASO MA2 requirements ? If your Synth oil is not that rating or better...change & run for an hour some 'flushing oil' then dump it...remove all the clutch plates and thoroughly clean them with a solvent , re- oil them with the correct oil & refit them with the same correctly rated oil to the upper oil level mark & try it again then . Hello, thanks for the responses, I fitted cheap plates and kept the std springs when rebuilt 4 years ago and under heavy load it slips. I am going to replace and
can find EBC heavy duty plates and springs on Ebay for about £70.00. I am no lunatic on a bike especially a 45 yr old one so will probably go down this route.
I have always used Motul semi-synthetic which I was advised would be OK or would mineral 10-40 be better?

I have heard mixed reports of the quality on ebc plates these days.
Go standard if possible, or try trac king sets ,grumpy1260 flog them and some of us who trackday our bikes have found them to be good

The only slight downside of the 8 plate kit is that the plates are thinner and cut into the basket fingers quicker than stock causing stiction.
Other than that you should have no problems.
However for the road you shouldn't actually need one and the normal 7 plate set up should be good enough with possibly the addition of hd springs if running a tuned motor.
