Crankcase breather modification when fitting K&N pods
Just in the process of fitting K&N pod filters to my KZ1000 A2. What's a neat way of dealing with the crankcase breather which normally goes to the airbox? I have seen one suggestion is to use a K&N 3/8" 62-1570 filter but this appears no longer to be available. Is there a filter that fits straight on the engine breather to sit under the carbs or is it better to run a pipe somewhere? Ideas please
Dear Santa, please can I have...

I fitted one to my z1000a2 many years ago, It fitted straight on. Not sure of it's part number though but they are out there. Measure the diameter of the stub you are fitting to and then find out the internal diameter of the k+n options out there.

on my Z1R i've run a pipe to over the chain.

You are better to run a hose from the breather up to a high point above the carbs.
A filter straight on the breather tends to get soaked and clogged with oil mist in a short space of time but a long hose allows the oil mist to drop out of the air flow before going to atmosphere.

I used an oil catch tank with small filter as per the photo. Filter came via Zpower and used APE crankcase breather.

Wow, that's a beautifully engineered solution - nice. Probably a bit OTT for me though.

On my ZRX12 I fitted a K&N breather filter and never saw any issue with either clogging or with a smell of oil vapour.
On other bikes I simply vented the breather to below the engine in the gap between swingarm and crankcase. Both solutions work perfectly well.

Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better

I had an oil catch tank fitted on my zed, bought from DEBBEN PERFORMANCE. Because with just a filter on a short length of rubber tube - had issues with oil coming out a covering the carbs and rear of engine.

Agree - I've had to route the breather hose up high on several Zeds to reduce the amount oil pissing out
A catch bottle is defo a good idea to avoid any oil ending up on the rear tyre
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
