Tick Over Issue

#1 PostAuthor: Philmpg » Sun Jan 23, 2022 11:21 am

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice - I can't get my Z1B to tick over between 800 -1000rpm.
When rolling, the bike is responsive, smooth and pulls cleanly in all gears, just idles too fast

I have stripped the carbs, ultrasonically cleaned them, replaced jets, float valves etc with genuine Mikuni parts, got Rob Meggitt to do the choke plungers, checked float heights and done the float level check. Really don't know what else to do - anybody experienced anything similar ?

Cheers
Phil

If your trying to get it to tickover at 800 that is too low. These bikes tickover at 1000 - 1200.
Only thing you didn't mention is carb colour tune and balance. That will smooth the tickover allowing you to get to 1000 rpm smoothly.

What about getting them balanced by a good tuner

Voicing opinions is always dangerous however if its ticking over too high but all else is ok , then mine is you have a slide sittng high & probably needs balancing, I have found Morgan carbtune kits worth every penny :)

You won't get a steady idle at 800 rpm. It's too low and the motor will falter and stall.
1000rpm is the lowest you will get and that is only if engine condition and carb balance etc is near perfect and you also have a better chance of that on the thou with the heavier crank..
Vacuum balancing will get you the smoothest idle if not already done.
1000 to 1100 rpm is where you want to be.
