wheel rim problem

#1 PostAuthor: jpward58 » Sun Feb 06, 2022 8:01 pm

Hello all

I managed to source a rear wheel with the right date codes for my Z1. I got it from a guy in the states at great cost to me including import duties etc. I recently started work on it only to find that there is a flat section on one side of the rim (absolutely not what I was expecting). See pics

I live in East Yorkshire, my question is does anyone on this site know anybody who can re work the rim back to true for me? Any suggestions / contacts / recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

John

A big vice, two planks of wood and a well aimed mallet might sort that out but without actually handling it it's hard to tell.
I'd find a professional wheel builder and see what they can do.
A quick google brings up a few hits for east yorkshire to keep it local.

I'd be tempted to try and make a wooden mould that fits inside the rim and spans a good few inches further than the damaged section either side then wallop it with a dead blow hammer possibly with added heat. Would definitely seek pro advice first though

Thanks fellas,

I was thinking of making a wooden mould too. Will see what else comes in first.

I've added the post to bike help as advised.

Cheers
