Hi all,
Would appreciate some assistance with the following please.:-
I am customising a 1980 KZ1000G which was imported from the states & have made some changes to the front & rear of the bike.
I have fitted a Bandit front forks/wheel & 1200 swing arm, along with a 5.5 inch wheel & 180mm tyre.
The problem is coming up with a solution for the chain drive & sprockets.
I have been advised that I need a 18 tooth 16mm offset drive sprocket & possibly a 45T rear sprocket.
The problem I have is the alignment as my calculations are that the rear sprocket needs a further offset in of about 6 mm so it matchs up & aligns fully with the drive sprocket.
The only way I can think of to remedy this is to reduce the width of the carrier hub.
Any comments on this subject would be most welcome
Cheers
Roger

Re: Chain & sprocket wheel alignment
Try a 14mm front offset and machine 4mm off the rear carrier.

Re: Chain & sprocket wheel alignment
Done this many times with various modern 17" wheels.
5/8ths offset front ( 18 or 19t with 530 chain ).
40 to 42t rear with approx 8mm of the sprocket carrier depending on wheel make to put the carrier face 101mm from the centerline.

Re: Chain & sprocket wheel alignment
Cheers for your help & confirming what I was led to believe.
I have ordered a 16mm offset 18T drive sprocket, 42T rear sprocket & chain from Suzuki racing.
So I will get the carrier hub machined & hopefully sort that problem out.
I have another issue that I could do with some help please?
I have purchased some Bandit Mk2 forks & had yolks machined to fit the Z.
Also got some Tokico 6 pot brake calipers to fit on the forks.
Unfortunately when fitted the wheel which I bought will not pass between the calipers, which leads me to believe either the callipers are wrong or the wheel or both
Any advise would be appreciated
