Kickstart conundrum

#1 PostAuthor: Grog » Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:34 pm

Folks;

Most times the bike (Z1R) starts on the electric foot, but occasionally it doesn't - so it's got a good old fashioned kickstart fitted as well. (I know, fix the problem, but I had a spare kicker lying around...) The new trick is this - the kickstart will turn the engine over happily without the clutch lever being pulled, as per expected. If I pull the clutch lever in to start the bike, the kickstart swings easily but doesn't turn the engine over - so no go! Obviously something is not being engaged/staying disengaged when the clutch is operated. Anyone know what before I delve into the manual? Any and all ideas gratefully received.

1979 Z1R (mostly - it's been fiddled with a bit)
1977 Z650B1 - I'll get round to putting it back together one day...

You know what, just ignore me. I'd no sooner pressed 'send' than it occured to me that it was naff all to do with the bike, I was having a serious case of brain fade. :down OBVIOUSLY the kickstart won't engage with the clutch lever in. :D Iv'e not had a drink yet, but I think I'm about to start. West coast tomorrow back on!
