Wiseco 1200 crankshaft choice
Hi guys, I am building a 1200 wiseco engine based on z900a5 crankcases. I have a z1 crankshaft that I have rebuilt and welded, what I am asking is, would there be any advantages to using an early z1000 crankshaft? I am aware that the outer crankshaft bearings are slightly larger and the webs are heavier, does this make it stronger? I won't be racing, I just want the engine to be as bulletproof as possible. All the Z1/900 through to Z1R D1 cranks are identical regarding the rods crank pins and bearings with the main difference being the 1000 cranks having heavier crank webs which makes them a bit slower on picking up the revs compared to the lighter 900 crank ..
It is the later MK2/ST style crank ( with an extra tooth (16t) on the camchain drive) that has bigger crank pins and is slightly stronger .
For road use or even racing any correctly welded Z900 or 1000 crank in good condition is up to the job.
The stock welded 900 crank in the 250hp Orient express turbo drag bike running 30psi copes just fine..
