I don't know what spec this Z1R motor is, but I assure you it is NOT standard Exclamation When its not spinning up, it's doing power-wheelies in first & will lift (a few mm) in second Twisted Evil

Thats the beauty of the weight loss I mentioned plus the short wheel base on Harris's even with a standard motor they are like that!!

The wheel base on this one is a bit longer due to the JMC, but take my word for it, even allowing for the -40kg, this thing will run rings around my 1075 z1000 which is pretty nifty - 90 bhp at the wheel)

....although I have been riding around on my CB750F2 for a week or two

If it is just the weight loss - WOOOOW

My engine isn't standard as the revs pick up too quick & strong

Mines defiantly won't be, been talking to Joe @ Pit stop and have taken his advice, bought a cylinder head and barrels from eBay in the US and he's going to perform his magic, really nice honest fella.

Just been out for a 30 mile "Test-Ride" and she's bloody marvelous

One issue tho' - heading back home and about 1/4 mile away she starts holding back a bit, then running at 1/2 power

Limped back home and could smell summink rather hot & a slight whiff of burning :??

First thing check the DYNA S pickups under the points cover .... all OK.

Next, tank off and check the DYNA coils....

Image

W T F :!:

Now it does get hot under there... and the coils don't have much air flow  or a heatsink such as the frame as they're connected to the fibreglass electric tray :!: They are not held in an awkward position or stressed physically.

The Lithium battery is fine so over charging is probably not the issue - will check when coils replaced.

Luck for me I have a spare set of 3.0 Ohm green Dyna coils.

Question is - what do you reckon caused it :?: Just the heat :|

It is your coils that are the cause.
Those grey coils are only 2.2 ohms.
You need a minimum of 3.0 ohms (Green dyna coils) if you are using a Dyna 'S'.
Going higher than 3 ohms is ok but not lower.

Cheers Rob

I run Grey on me Z1000, but thats with Dyna 2000 - must have got muddled

Anyhow, fitted the greens now, but it also turned out that the pickup also got fried  SO had a spare and replaced that and it works now :P Resited them for more airflow.

Image

Took the opportunity to fit the softer shock spring - I had a 650lb fitted but it was a bit harsh - so now got a 550lb instead :!:

Image

Also found that the ACEWELL speedo unit had some dodgy wiring - now this was NOT down to ACEWELL, but my lad who borrowed it for his Bandit a couple years ago  There were a few bare wires - not ideal :!:

Nice weather today - so after a few tweeks here & there, had an hour testing

The new weaker spring is good, still firm ride but taken a bit of the sting out.

One thing from last ride out - the speedo sensor was damaged by the chain touching it  Ordered a slightly different one from Craig at ACEWELL - top chap, very helpful & knows his stuff - highly recommend :!:

Image

Ordered it yesterday afternoon - and it just arrived - less than 24hrs.

Although I got a DAYTIME Mot, I decided to fit some subtle lights - just in case I get caught out one evening...... The rear is a brake light with tail light so that just needed wiring up + some cheap Halfrauds chavvy LED's up front....

Image

Also opened the air screws 1/2 turn (now 2 out), but there a bit of hesitance on part throttle at 50 - 60 mph, so may just raise the needles a notch

Apart from that she's fookin' superb. I think the motor may be standard now I'm adjusting to it - just the lack of weight that makes a real difference
