How good will that bike look if it were painted like this?

That is sh*t hot . Paint probably cost more than my entire project.

i would be amazed if so...i look at your bike and wonder how many thousands you have spent on it so far!

looks the absolute bollocks though, i wish i could do stuff like that but i know i will never even get close

Actually both bikes are very similar bar the blower and single seat. Yam swingarm ,usd's Three spokes etc, Same but different. Would have yours in my garage any day, Really nice. Wanted wavy discs on mine but they couldn't get them for the zx7 wheels at the time and i needed to get the chassis rolling so settled for the std look. No , not a trained engineer just mechanic but like to do as much as i can myself. Have been dissapointed in the past with work i've paid for and most times ended up doing it better myself. So i think why not give it a go then i can only blame myself if it goes t*ts up.

I was suprised to find this pic of the Drouin Zed today on the OSP site. This is as i bought it and the pic that was on evil bay. If you look close you can see the only thing holding it together is the shed door. A true abomination of which only the Blower and fuel tank remain.

I've gone through the previous posts, but can't find anything on it's history.
Can you shed any light? I'm sure there must a story there.

Would like to know more myself. All i know is that the bike was a loosely cobbled together pile of bits with no log book and could never have turned a wheel like this. jmc arm had no adjusters, wheels were 18in magnesium marvics off a J gixer , forks were suzuki but just holding frame off the ground coz the stem wasn't long enough, v&h megaphone just hanging there, 'new' rear shock mounts were rusty bolts just bird sh*t welded on, engine was empty set of broken cases , no internals, scrap head, angle iron L/H engine mounts etc ,etc. A real mess . Do know the blue mallory magneto was off that MAD COW 1000J with the z1r tank that was featured in SF a few years ago which was built by BIG FOUR ENGINEERING. And their shop ( before they shut ) had not been too many miles from where i bought the bike in castleton. So i would think the guy had got hold of a load of stuff from Big Four when they shut and tried to do something with it (unsucessfully). I only bought it for the Drouin and would really like to find the history of this as it had the plenum fitted with four big old nitrous injectors + another in the intake,The manifold has been adapted to take a Mr Turbo keihin pumper (now fitted) or SS super b and had a massive metanol jet fitted you could put your arm down.

I am soooo impressed with this build. What particularly impresses me is the fact that at all stages you are making stuff rather than putting the credit card into melt-down as is so tempting. This bike will be a truly individual machine rather than a bunch of performance bits bolted together.

I'm deeply envious of your lathe. Being short of space I only have a shit Chinese lathe , but I do also have a shit Chinese Mill as well . If space / money were no object I'd have a Colchester Student and a Bridgeport Mill. These do occasionally come up at the right price, but I have nowhere to put 'em

I picked up the lathe a few years ago, it's an Ex school Harrison 140 metric screw cutting, Paid £600 for it ,the bigger they are the cheaper they get usually. Luckily it was local and managed to shift it with a JCB and made some wheels for it to get it through the shed door, Heck of a job though,If i ever sell up and move i think the next owners will inherit it.

Bought these "yoshi" rearsets off Evil Bay a while back with the intention of keeping it simple and just making up some brackets and fitting them. When they arrived they were no more japanese than i am. They were anodised a lovely sh*t brown and the adjustable link rod had right hand threaded rose joints at each end and thats the best bits ,Should have expected it though for £40 delivered.

Ended up blasting the anodising off and used only the levers and knurled pegs and made new mounting plates and toe ends. On the r/h side i added a hinge and spring detent to hold the peg out of the way of the kickstart and replaced the cheapo pivot bearing with a bronze bush, i also flipped the lever upsidedown so i could get a straight run for the linkage to the brake master cylinder.

On the l/h side i discovered that the lever was too short to get my size 10's under for changing up so i had to mount it forward on it's own pivot then extend the footpeg to match the other side.Luckily i had a nice ally Yam R1 or R6 gearlinkage that fitted the Zed's splines and had a l/h threaded rose joint on so all i had to do was cut the rod to length and re-tap the cut end to take the r/h joint. A lot of mucking about for what should have been a simple bolt on job.

At a bit of a standstill. Been trying to sort the exhaust but no luck with the buell down pipes or donor exhaust material.Found nothing at autojumble or evil bay. In negotiation with Exhaust Craft to do the headers and collector but will have to compromise with what i want and what i get. Never really gonna be happy unless i do it myself. Got a picture in my head that only i can reproduce. Once this is sorted things should start to move fast again.

Is it not poss to fit a second hand exhaust for now, then fit what you want as & when the parts turn up. That way, I get to watch an amazing build & you don't have to compromise on your exhaust.

Haven't seen anything second hand that is suitable. All zed stuff gets snapped up, Harris's hang too low and fetch silly money. I've got 8 inch of ground clearance to the sump fins so need to get the collector as high as poss and to the left to miss the filter housing, Pretty much the same thing as what i did on the Z1R. Something will turn up eventually but probably not as soon as i'd like.

Got Exhaust Craft to do me a set of headers and collector with a few tweaks to make it sit closer to the front frame tubes. Should be winging it's way to me at this very moment. Maybe get some pic's of it bolted on at weekend if i'm lucky and then there's nothing to stop me firing it up and setting the timing. Will need to finish off a few details , chain & sprockets and sort out a silencer , then just a good paint job and we're away .
