Slowly slowly 'n' all that, two steps forward and one big step back but getting there.
A few more jobs done and a couple added
First one or two steps forward off the list.
Number plate mount finally done.
This simply gets sandwiched between the rear light and rubber mounts on the seat.
Bulky rear brake reservoir replaced with race item from Dennis Trollop racing but with cheapo plastic cap replaced for my own alloy item.
Small filler cap i had fitted seemed out of proportion so has been swapped for the larger version
Looks much better now
Then finally on to the kickstart lever, I recently picked one up for a decent price off evil bay which I then bent and braced to miss the zx10r foot controls.
With the kickstart fitted I could finally try out the race ignition and this is where the trouble began.
After several frantic kicking sessions i couldn't get a spark and a phone call to Electrex revealed that the unit needs around 200 rpm to produce a pulse.
A quick few kicks on the Drouin showed a maximum of 110 rpm on its digital tacho .... BOLLOCKS!
Bump starting or carrying a set of starting rollers around in a rucksack isn't part of the plan so that's £500 down the drain
My own fault I suppose for not thinking when I bought it so in to the 'FOR SALE' section it has gone and plan B has been activated......
And here it is !
Enter stage left a race alternator
Another 500 knicker in Electrex's pocket
Luckily it uses the same basic backplate as the ignition so my work on the one off cover is not wasted and i still get to keep the look.
The knock on of this is that i've had to reinstate the r/h side of the crank and ignition housing to drive a Dyna 'S'
Not the clean slim lines i wanted but the best of a compromise.
I managed to slim the housing by 10mm or so with the crank nut running in the bulge I added earlier.
Nearly there.

Rob, wouldn't Electrex do a fair exchange for the one you
bought by mistake?
Nice to see your bike near completion, the alloy is pukka!

I jokingly asked them for a px but they wouldn't play.
I didn't really buy it by mistake though just took it for granted that it would spin fast enough off the kickstart.
If I don't sell it I suppose i'll have to build a proper race bike to put it on
I must say though! For what you get in the Race ignition, the Alternator kit has nowhere near the same amount of components and i don't think it's worth the same price.
At pre vat £385 for the ign i think the alt is worth £250 tops and that's being generous especially as there are issues with this alt i haven't mentioned that electrex have yet to rectify with me

Discovery, trying something new, serendipity...
Not mistakes!
If it all goes pear shaped for me anyhow with
that laser optic ignition

Tidied up the front end a bit.
Bought one of these alloy reservoirs to modify and replace the original plastic eyesore .
£15 delivered from Taiwan .
Not worth making one myself for that price as it comes with a screw cap and the internal diaphragm etc.
An adaptor was machined up to push into the master cylinder and after turning the hose barb off the new res it was threaded and screwed on the adaptor with a copper washer and lock nut inside for good measure.
Job Done.

After fitting the race alt i now needed a battery large enough to power the dyna ignition and coils that I've had to replace the self generating jobbie with. .
Electrex say their alt needs a minimum 8 amp battery but there's no acid or gell battery that size anywhere near small enough to fit the space in the tail where the little alarm battery was going to go.
After much searching i bit the bullet and bought this 9 amp Shoria lithium battery and charger.
It's tiny and weighs nothing compared to the std zed item .
You can use a normal charger but all mine are optimates with the desulphation mode which will fry the shoria so I bought the matching charger which plugs in to the batterys charging port
Plenty of room in there now . Just need to make a bracket, find somewhere for the reg/rec and then I can start on the wiring.
