carb rubbers rock hard any tips ?

hi guys got my z1000j running the other day all good but it only idles
or revs up with the choke on i reckon it could do with the carbs cleaning .

But the airbox rubbers have gone like PLASTIC so would make removal and putting them back on hard work
have you got any tips tor sofening them up again or got a soft set spare

I find applying heat with a hairdryer is quite effective. Just remember to put it back in wife's/girlfriend's/daughter's bedroom exactly as you found it and make sure there is no grease or oil on it

For reassembly you could always stick them in some hot water to soften them up prior to refitting.

A plumber friend of mine said to soften the fibre tap connector washers in hot water before fitting them for a leak free joint. So there ya go!

Also, instead of a hair dryer you could use one of those paint stripping guns and you can get it as grubby as you like without trying to clean it with a substance that leaves no smell, cuz she WILL know!!

Waste of time with old ones ,there not dear. I just got a set for the GPZ750 from Z power for £8 each posted.

You can soften up old airbox to carb rubbers by soaking them in acetone. I've seen it done on a video and it was amazing. Effect lasts for about 4 months according to the commentary with the DVD. From Mark
