On Tuesday (yesterday) I dropped my caliper and tool tray, in to Unimet in Reading, around lunch time, to have the blast and refinish them, the caliper in satin, and the tool tray in gloss. This morning around eleven, I got a call telling me they were ready for collection! :shock: :rocks

They look lovelly. How much did they charge you ?
As I am trying to figure out whether to refurb my Z1B calipers, or fit some new ones from z power, (currently doing them for £79.99 a side).

Adrian to be fair it will work out around the same, a seal set is £40, then a set of pads, and then I paid £40 to have the calipers refinished, + the cost of a caliper decal, and new bleed nipple :roll:

I was lucky as my piston was in very good condition, but that could be extra cost too. you add it all up and the new ones seem like a good deal, but I like the fact that mine is an original part. :wink:

So there you have it, an honest opinion

I have 99% of the parts I need to get the bike on the road, but as I am call out engineer this weekend, I am not sure I will find the time, but I may try to fire the old thing up :shock:

Week 3

Although I am on call this weekend, I have managed to get a little time at the garage, I started by putting the caliper back together, I am still waiting on the pads though...

I then replaced the perished rear footrest rubbers...

and fitted the replacement oil pressure switch housing (thanks Mark) complete with new O-rings...

The red stuff is rubber grease for the o-rings...

And I fitted that little grommet that goes in the headlight shell :wink: Not too bad being as I am on call.

I have stalled a little this week, or so it seems :| my rear wheel is in the shop being rebuilt with new spokes, and I am waiting on a couple of parts I have ordered, front pads, new gel battery, that kind of thing.
I shall be getting some new rim tapes at Netley, tyres are here, and it is all but ready for an MoT. :)

So I hit the 4th weekend, and the news is......

It Lives!

I changed out the oil, it had been over filled, I just filled it again with cheap oil, ready for a new filter and oil change when it goes in for the MoT. I fitted new NGK plug caps, and amazingly, it still had the original factory plug caps fitted, so I have kept these back in case anyone is restoring a Z1b and wants to fit the propper caps.
Next I fitted a new fuel tap, and checked everything for leaks, then full choke, power on, two kicks and away she went. big clouds of smoke from where she has been standing, I think the bores had been oiled too, a bit of a rattle as the oil circulated, and then it settled down fine. :kem Now it is firing up instantly on the button, so the MoT is getting closer.

Lastly I fitted a nw smaller plate, as the old one was a bit on the large side, but then again so am I :wink:

Obviously a little lumpy, as things need fine tuning, carbs etc, and I think it was stored with oil in the bores too
