starter motor problem.

on my klr the electric start will not work , have put cable from starter motor on to batt plus and it turns over , have also put on a new starter soeniod, checked wires in switch housing and all look ok, what else should i be checking

Check you are getting voltage to the solenoid .... thats the small wires gioing to the solenoid from the starter button.

Some times brushes need replacing if starter only just turns over, or perhaps battery is too low to support coils and starter!

bunny, try this if you have a multimeter connect it to the two wires that go to the starter button, press button and look for continuity when pressesd, i have seen loads of carboned/dirty contacts over the years, if this is the case remove gubbins fron switch gear, and dress up with a bit of fine emery/wet an dry, squirt a bit of contact cleaner/brake cleaner on then reassemble and recheck, hopefully you will be back to normal, hope this helps, tricky.
