Today was filled with hope ... I went into town and got a pair of needle roller bearings for the swinging arm. I went to a friend's engineering shop to blag some hex stainless to make some bolts with, but failled to borrow some metric fine dies ... they seem to be as rare as rocking horse shit in the UK, apparently the rest of the world uses fine threads, just not us, unless we are talking BSF/UNF.
When I got home I made a pretence at work but knowing that the missing fork seal had arrived in the post made non-Zed work unappetising. I gave up the unequal struggle and put the second fork leg together and stuffed it in the yolks.
Reading the workshop Manuel, I sussed that beating the needle rollers in with a mallet was frowned on, so machined up some ally, threaded rod and tigged a nut on the end to make another VDUK special Kwak tool. The tool half worked. It put one bearing in a treat, made all the easier with the air impact driver (another MM bargain), but not the second. Why ... cos I have managed to lose the fakker somewhere in my house/workshop/office. I have turned the bloody workshop inside out, I have put all the tools away, cleaned the machine tools lest it was lurking in the swarf, cleared the benches even Henry'd the floor. But the bastard thing is still hiding. I have steam coming outta my firkin ears, but it matters not... the little bastard is sat somewhere laughing it's frigging needles off watching me becoming appaplectic whilst trying to resist the temptation to throw things around the shop to vent my ever deepening frustration. I have now accepted that I will have to drive into the filthy smoke to buy another in the morn, along with something else I don't really want as they have a minimum order value and the bloody bearing is only three and a half quid.
Pics showing my bearing putter in, but not seeker out.

I can't get the bearings from JMC as they don't make 'em any more. The bearings are imperial 5/8" ground out to 16mm (0.002" out). The local bearing company quoted me ?37summat plus VAT / bearing so until I can get some sensible priced bearings I'll have to stick with the bend arm! I got a price to grind out the bearings of a tenner / bearing which I could just about live with. At the moment I have been hemorraging lolly and I need to restrict how much I am getting myself in the doh doh!

I spent a ridiculous amount of time on Saturday making the little bits at the back of the swinging arm in stainless ... why? I am beginning to wonder my self. The worst thing was that I didn't have any stock the right size so had to mill down some great lump with a 1/2" inch end mill. Sadly my cheap Chinese milling machine doesn't have a power slide so the tedium was added to by constant handle winding. As I was sitting there cranking the cutter through the stainless, burning the rocal cutting fluid it ocurred to me it made quite a pretty/arty picture so I grabbed my faithful Nikon and a tripod and took a pic!
and here's the final effort in place.
