Locating dowels

#1 PostAuthor: DavidZ1R » Sun Mar 05, 2017 4:54 pm

Just a question, the little locating dowels or pins that are in the crankcase for crank alignment, are they fixed or do they have to come out for crankcase cleaning, also while the engine is down, what internals should be replaced as a matter of course, engine done 33k, cheers

Dowels will come out - but often real tight - due to oil & suction sometimes!
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

as for parts inspect them meticulously, if you have any doubts about them, replace it as you will only be worried about it when the engine goes back together (well that's my opinion anyway).

during my z1100r engine build I replaced both sides of 2nd gear and all the gearbox bearings, had the crank rebuilt with new bearings and replaced cam chain. I also stripped and cleaned the oil pump, in the bottom end.
