Engine sprocket movement

In the process of sticking a new chain and sprockets on the Z1R. Just come to torque up the engine sprocket to find that when the nut and washer are tight against the splines on the shaft the sprocket has a mm or so of 'float' (i.e. in/out movement) left. Is this normal? Can't say I've noticed it before. It's almost as if a thin washer/spacer is missing, but I'm sure there's not one gone astray and the manual doesn't mention one. All suggestions gratefully received.

is it an aftermarket sprocket they do vary a bit,you just need a slightly thicker washer.

Yeah, the thought had occurred to me. The washer fits snug up to rather than over the splines so it's not that. I refitted the old sprocket and sure enough there's a bit of play there - I guess accumulated chain gunk was holding it firm when I took it off the first time. Anyway, on the basis that the old one's not fallen off or exploded and killed me to death so far I can live with the new one doing the same - it's just another little wobble to deal with, right?
