Engine Cosmetics

Can anyone advise any tried and proved methods for cosmetically restoring engine looks without stripping and vapour blasting
Engine will have been removed from the bike.
Suggestions so far -
Scotch-Brite (not sure what grit number) ?
Alumabright ?
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Fine Wire wool dipped in metal polish. Cheap as chips.

carb cleaner is good for lifting absorbed oily desposits too

Whatever you do it won't get into all the nooks,crannys and fins like blasting does.
You are always going to end up with a patchy looking motor at best unless you spray the whole thing black.
There are one or two firms that will blast the motor as a whole though once they have carefully masked off every orifice but I personally don't like the idea as i've seen some disasters and wrecked motors from the process.

My method...

Putoline chain & Engine degreaser first off (Expensive but it works) to remove the shite.

Scotch pad wrapped around a thin blade screwdriver to remove corrosion and get into the all the little gaps.

Finally a set of those long handled artists type brushes (Pound shop) and a tube of this (MUST be Silver Leaf)...

Then with the above brushes to get into the awkward bits paint it on and rub it off (what it says on the tube).

Takes time and patience and if the lump is very grey then may need a few coats.

My old Thou engine was already clean when I got the bike, but had gone a little grey and lost that 'just blasted' look, so was brought back with the above.
