Unitrac offset sprockets

#1 PostAuthor: Julian_Boolean » Sat Jul 29, 2017 11:08 am

After my sprocket nut coming undone (big thankyou to RobW for rescuing me from the roadside) I need a sprocket with 2mm more offset so that I don't need a washer behind the sprocket and then the tab washer will have enough to hold onto, my current sprocket is marked BA523-15, does anyone know what offset this is?
Also where is a good place to get sprockets from?

With further investigation, looks like this is a standard Unitrak front sprocket, so I just need to find out how much offset it has

I can relate to that! Mine came off at Donington. Apparently they are infamous for it. Lock washer is still available from Kawasaki. Off set sprockets then Chris at Grumpy or Debben will see you right.

BTW unbeknown to me when my sprocket let go the chain chewed in to the lower frame rail like a chain saw. Apparently i was very lucky it didn't throw itself through the engine case.

Mine came off at about 80mph, made a whizz noise as it rested on the end of the shaft, so Ii guess I was lucky.
Had a look on the internet and a GPZ1000RX sprocket has 1mm more offset, so this would be better, ZZR 1100 sprocket has 6mm more offset but I don't think it's available in 630.
Tempted to go to a 16 tooth sprocket if I'm changing it ambit currently feels a bit under geared.

According to my research

630 Chain Roller Width = 9.53 mm
Therefore my standard sprocket which has a overall width of 18mm has an offset of 8.47 mm
GPZ1000RX sprocket has overall of 19 mm therefore offset = 9.47 mm
3/8 offset = 9.53 mm

So I might as well get a GPZ1000RX sprocket as it's only 0.06 of a mm less offset.
Shame I can't find a 10mm offset sprocket.

Early zx10 has an offset front sprocket. It's the one I have fitted to mine.

Ordered a GPZ1000RX 630 sprocket, same offset as ZX10 but 630 rather than 530
