The Z900A4 I "stole"
After 5 years I've decided to restore the Z900A4 i stole off my mate in 2012, I posted the story back then, but briefly, my mate owned the bike from about 1984 it was black with pink fish scales sorta painted on it (WTF). i remember the day he bought it. He diced it up a bit over the years until about 2000 when he parked it in his garage and his wife hung the washing on it. I tried with no avail to buy it. increasing my offer as the years went on.
In 2012 "bang" literally his boiler blew up and he phoned me to repair it. I told him he needed a new gas boiler instead of his old oil one and I would do it for mates rates of £1500, in short he had no money and after his wife nagging the shit out of him for a week the bike was delivered to my house with a note on it. get me some heat or my wife moving in with you.
The pictures are kind to the bike and over the last 5 years I've had lots of other projects to do, but the odd time I'd spend some time on the Zed. Engine has been stripped and vapour blasted, carbs been sonic cleaned and rebuilt, frame been stripped and repaired, (rotten shock mounts, anyone else had that problem?) and frame repainted.
I've been gathering parts up as budget allowed but am still short airbox and silencer (one fitted is a retro from Z power i think of an earlier model) and a standard swing arm, I'm going to build with the JMC at the moment and keep looking for a standard as I go.
When stripped the engine it had a big bore kit in it Rebored and redone crank and all bearing and bushings
Heres some photos of it when I got it, the pics are kind to it, Ill keep this thread going as I progress.

Why? what's wrong with 3 spoke CMA's? Got a set on a 650. (in Australia apparently!)

3 spoke CMA's where too badly damaged, so they're long gone

The CSR muddy is "square" and shite. The Z900/1000 LTD muddy's are nicer & do look good.

Depends if your going stock or not. Also looks like rear mudguard is gone and converted to a tail tidy.

Nothing wrong with it just need to slot the front mounting holes to bring the front end down a bit, put one on my thou this week, and at £35 including postage from the States it looks even better.

It's not an anti theft device, it's an anti thief device, we should all have these sorts of devices.

Re: The Z900A4 I "stole"
Hi a bit of an update on my z900, I've now got the wheels on and barrels, and I am gonna finish fitting the valves etc on the head this weekend, bodywork going for paint this week when I get time to drill and retap the broken screws out of the tank badge threads.
The wheels are looking pretty good, but I didn't bother getting them rechromed as they are wrong codes, but are Tagasako rims. I didn't see the point as I will try and source correct rims in time, and the one fitted are perfectly service able although have a few marks on them.
I have made up a tool for the lath and hopefully it will work on my clocks to get the stainless ring crimped on. New clock faces by Big Fluff, many thanks, look great and backing all been zinced.
