Running rufff
Hi all , just got a 76 kz 9. Non runner, I’ve got it running , after carb refurb new coils points & plugs , static timed, runs ok at about 2K don’t like to tick over , and won’t start without Easystart down the carbs, any suggestions on what next???

Re: Running rufff
sounds like ya carbs still, float hieghts ,balanced em ,tick over ajusted ? plug leads right way? fresh fuel?
Re: Running rufff
Despite the carb refurb it sounds like the pilot fuel circuit.
Pilot controls from zero to around 2k rpms.
I'd have another look at the pilot jets and the drilling that emerges in the venturi .
It's also common for the pilot screw tips to break off and block the pilot drillings.

Thanks I’ll check it out

Hi Trad 1
sounds indeed like a carb problem.
Take them off, strip them completely, clean them ultrasonically, 2 times or more, and afterwards use compressed air to clean out all the small tubes in the carbs. Put them together again, give them an initial static synchronisation, make sure the floater height is correct and mount them again on the bike. Perform a final synchronisation.
If done correct the bike should perform well.
If you can't do it youself, find someone you can trust to do it.
Just remember that a shiny carb on the outside is not a guaranty for a clean carb on the inside !
Good luck!
Greetings
Philippe

Re: Running rufff
As others have said, it does sound like blocked pilot jets, but could be ignition timing

After I've put carbs in the ultrasonic bath I tend to use carb. cleaner spray to make sure that all the drillings are completely clear - you can see the fluid exiting as it should (be careful not to get an eye full). After all it's such a pain in the arse to get to this stage, it's worth making doubly sure.

Re: Running rufff
Probably carbs as said if it runs reasonably well on easystart.
I would also do a compression check sooner than later. Most old engines will need some work if not already attended to. It is good to get this out of the way and problems here can send you on merry dance and your carbs will never set up properly. Make sure you follow the manual, charged battery, hot engine and open throttle etc..

This is why I love thus club - a simple question asked by a new member, brilliantly answered in a few replies with sound advice.
No piss taking - no armchair experts giving their opinion on something they know nothing about.
Well done!
Oh! and its definitely the pilots or not synced.

Thanks for everyone's replys really helpful , and the offer of help, , so it's back to the garage this weekend
Re: Running rufff
as already mentioned blocked pilot system but it is also important to check the valve clearances & do a compression test. if the valves are tight it will struggle to draw in any fuel
