Hi and thanks for having me.
I've been away from bikes since moving to France in 2005 (I'm not counting my TY250 twin shock that's in the barn). I've had various bikes over the years, a couple of z250's, 350LC, a Zephyr 550 and an 11, the final one being a Bird. I've been looking for an older steel beast for a while and have just bought a Z100ST. It's not been started for 10 years so there is a bit of work to be done. Apparently it was in running condition when taken off the road. The chap stopped riding it because it was too heavy and held on to it hoping his grandson would like it. He showed no interest so it went up for sale.
Not knowing a lot about the Z1000 range I've no idea how original it is?
Good points are that it seems to be complete, bad points...
The tank has rust holes, the seat base is cracked and it has a Marving 4 into 1 exhaust. All the brakes are seized, fork seals gone and the wiring loom has been 'modified'. The brakes and forks are to be expected, so no real issue there.
I didn't turn over on the button, had no spark on the kick and the lights came on as soon as a battery was connected?
After cleaning the switch gear the starter works and after refitting the regulator (the 3 yellow alternator wires and a brown were connected directly to the positive???) and giving it an earth it sparked.
I put a bit of 2 stroke oil down each pot and turned it over a few times, then connected up a lawn mower fuel tank and.......the beast lives.
So the immediate jobs are:
Oil change, brakes, clean the carbs, fork seals, see if I can save the tank, and try and do something with the seat. I'm working off a downloaded wiring diagram, a Z650 manual and my limited knowledge at present but would like to source a Kwak workshop manual. If anyone knows of a PDF manual, that would help a lot.

Good choice, an ST is a beast! Heavy but very reliable.
I have 5 ST's and experience in restoring them. A lot of parts are easy to find, some are not.
If you have a question , don't hesitate, just ask.

Thanks for the welcome, yes very heavy. Not the weight, about the same as my Zeph11 but the centre stand design is very different and makes it feel twice the weight! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.

You can move this this to technical if you prefer? Took the front end off. Master cylinder, fork seals...and also found a ratchet steering, so going to do the calipers and hoses as well. When I was in the UK I used M&P for most stuff. Not been there for a while, they used to mention brand names, not now, but there prices are good. Any advise gratefully received. Also, is there there anywhere you can get brake hose DIY kits? When I worked a Norton (Shenstone) we made these all the time.

One other quick question. Is there a phosphor bronze(?) sleeve that acts as a guide for the fork leg? I remember changing te seals in the Zeph and it still leaked until I changed the worn sleeve (and another set of seals). I haven't got a manual or parts diagram as yet and haven't stripped them to see until I've got the new parts.
