Hey up Adrian
ive been through carbs that many times now there dizzy once the pilots had a small amount of shit
on them which i think was me not rinsing tank out well enough after painter had done his magic but
all clean now ,i was wondering if pilots need to be a size up with 4 into 1 ? ive only had to bother
once before on a z650 same set up

its worth a shot going up on the pilots but make sure the pilot system is clear by dribling some WD 40 in the pilot hole with the jets remove & see if one of the carbs is slower a releasing the fluid through the carb

If you have Std Mikuni 26mm carbs the 17.5 pilots are correct for a Z900 and you should not require any larger than that ! If the bike was mine I'd check your plugs & caps are all OK & that the mixture colour shown on them is almost the same on all of them. Then I'd check your advance & retard unit is functioning as it should by =( visual check the cam is rotating smoothly back & forth against the springs with no slack in the springs if thats OK then put a strobe on & check the fully advanced marks on both 1&4 and 2&3 are correct at " I think it's 2750 rpm ? ..check in your manual " if thats OK ..........as an exercise I'd then go back to the carbs & drop the Slide Needle clips 1 notch ...i.e. your RAISING the needle by 1 notch on each slide , this will have the effect of richening the mixture a little in the range of 1/4 - 3/4 throttle approx & with a less restrictive exhaust this is normally a requirement ! Your area of interference is within the lower ranges of the needle settings ( it's gunna be a process of elimination ...it's never clean cut in issues like this, give this a try & move on with other sound suggestions from other forum users.
Good luck Bill. Johny Brando.

Well its time for a update , i was that pissed of with the bike having had engine and carbs rebuilt that i opted to send the whole bike
to the builder after him offering to take a look, i won't go into detail but the bike is now back after a top end rebuild ready for a test
ride tomorrow but the short spin up the road when it came out the couriers van seems positive so fingers crossed as its really totted
up with Courier 180 miles each way and new rings and gaskets etc

i guess i'll be going back to doing my own engine work as its been a expensive lesson :)
