Re: Z1A float height
Having the same trouble with my Z1100r the float valve I took out had 2.5 on it but I don’t think that is correct and the repair kit I bought says 2.3 as you have used 2.6 2.8 I would have thought mine are way off or is it smaller for the bigger engines. May just resort to buying new if no luck, just waiting on a new float to try all my handy work out. Like you sick of the generic parts saying will fit a model only to find yes they fit but not bloody correct.
Re: Z1A float height
I can’t help you with the float valve size for your bike but someone here will know for sure. What I have learned is that you’ll only get the float height right with the right valve.
The carbs are sorted and back on the bike now, once the bike comes off the crate I built it on, first job is to replace the Z900 brake pads (sold as also fitting the Z1) with Z1 pads, when I bought them on eBay I didn’t know the Z1 has thicker discs, which is probably why there is chronic drag, the Z900 pads are too thick.

If you think about it a narrower diameter hole will not allow the valve to travel in as far and this give a lower fuel height.
Not sure about this bud, it's a tapered valve on a tapered seat, the hole size won't affect it in the same way as a tapered valve in a square drilled hole.
I've just compared some different size same type Mikuni float valves and they are the same.
I would rather suspect the OP had poor quality replacement parts.

All sorted, I have just gone with cleaning the originals and replacing the o rings. Had a 20mile run today and no leaks and running well. I know have 2 new sets of float valves that haven’t been used.
