Gearbox 1973 Z1

#1 PostAuthor: Cauf61 » Fri Jun 11, 2021 3:22 pm

Hello

My gearbox refuses to shift in the upwards direction ( 2.3.4.5) Down to 1st and neutral is perfect.Clutch is new and working fine.
Anybody has an idea what the cause could be ? Is it possible to work on the gearbox "in frame" ?

This is normal. You cannot shift up unless the output shaft is turning

That is normal.
It's called the positive neutral finder.
You can't engage 2nd and above until the bike is moving or you spin the back wheel while on the center stand.

There are three, (I think) ball bearings in one of the gearbox shafts, or the gear itself, that need centrifugal force to throw them out, which allows the second gear to move.
If you have a look at an exploded view of the gearbox parts you should be able to see these bearings in one of the shafts.
