Following on from the bore wear question, turned the engine upside down and pulled the sump to check the primary wear. Don't think its supposed to be filled with shavings.

Looks like you need to investigate more to see the source of the shavings.

Kev, the bores are in need of a rebore, plus size pistons and rings. The exhaust valve guides are sloppy, the valves are recessed into the head to the lower limit without tipping them. The cam chain can be flexed the wrong direction several inches. The primary chain has 44mmm slack, the wear limit is 27mm.
Think mr owner was turned over big time.

Thankfully not mine Kev. The list of parts that need attention or replacing mean that he could buy a different engine for half what that one would cost to make usable. Its one of those engines that means the only future it has would be as a special with every part given some spinach.
Oh forgot to mention ring end gap with new rings exceeds spec.

Doorstop? Coffee table base?
Seriously I wouldn’t bother spending good money on it, it looks like a money pit to me.

The owner came and picked the bike up complete with dismantled motor as I told him it wasnt worth reassembling. He's apparently taking it to some guy in north wales who reckons he can fix all those faults including all parts for £400 .
I smell something but it isnt roses!
