ELR Pingel with RS34's
Good afternoon all.
I have a 1984 Z1000R2 and there are a few bits I want to sort out, one being...
I noticed that it was leaking slightly from the stock vacuum Petcock, this was on both the side and centre stand. I have changed the innards of it at least twice in the last 3-5 years and i'm thinking of a Pingel as i'm getting fed up with it.
I have RS34's on the bike and I was wondering if the Pingel is a straight swap, ie when in position it's doesn't hit the top of the carbs?
Any alternative thoughts/ideas are of course welcome.
Cheers
Stu

Re: ELR Pingel with RS34's
Pingels are taller than standard. I have a pingel fitted to my lawson with keihin cr33 carbs and it is close to the top of the carbs. On one of my bikes I have used two tank rubbers at the rear, just to lift it up slightly. The tank on that one is very different to a standard one, so might not be relevant.

Thanks Rob, I'll bite the bullet and give them a try.

Re: ELR Pingel with RS34's
I was too tight to buy one. My standard tap leaked a little for a long while even after throwing new bits into it twice. I had an old, but different (very similar) tap laying about and managed to rob the thin crinkle shim out of it and cram it into mine. It is a little stiff. You could say un-necessarily positive but has not leaked one drop for about three years. It will probably wear out the ported rubber ring prematurely but not in the time i have been using it in this way so far.

You may be able to find a new tap on line as the taps often fit various models, I found one for my ELR in the states a few years ago.
Re: ELR Pingel with RS34's
Thanks for the replies.
I've also been reticent to splash out on the Pingel, as they are ample coin.
I also managed to get a replacement a few years back, that leaked and so I replaced the innards and that leaked after a while. Which was a pain.

Re: ELR Pingel with RS34's
Rob.
Thanks, that's good news.
Is it a straight swop? Or does the tank hole need altering?
The current one has a slightly elongated hole due to the filter element.

STu,
Not on the Z1R, thats a straightforward male boss connection. I think you need the adaptor plate
I also have one on my Z1300 which has the elongated hole. The pingle will not fit through the slot, you need to file off a little material either side of the slot with a rounded file.
From memory it was the same with my old ELR which had the pingle treatment.

Had to do the same on the Z1000A2 tank with the slotted hole.

And the Mk2 tank on my Z1R as well..................
Re: ELR Pingel with RS34's
If I alter the current hole to fit the Pingel is there any going back? IE can the original (or equivalent) petcock be used?
I imagine it would be someone else's problem, but would like all the information before I decide.

I think the new hole would be pretty close to the seal. Measure you clearance between sea an measure Pringle filter to check
