Just putting this out there to see if its an option.
Went about cleaning the inside of the tank on the 1000r and it appears it has had more than just a respray. At the minute I have too small holes down at the corner where it meets the seat and I have just begun. There looks to have been a lot of tig welding done as the mount for the tank badges were filled flush with weld and filler and the badges were stuck on.
Has anyone got a R or J tank in good condition or what would I expect to pay for one?

Re: R/J Tank
There is one on the bay right now for 675 sterling but open to an offer, sure a good paint and prep would cost you around 200 but you will have to go full Lawson if you do.

S1 no less!
I was hoping to get away with less if I do need to change the tank but can't say I'm surprised. A standard J would do as it is same pattern as the R and I'm getting everything else sprayed anyway. I'll persevere for another bit.

Owch! It hurts my eyes!
Hard to tell with all the dazzle paint but the bottom fixing lug and hole for the guage are wrong...thankfully! Money is alright though.
Re: R/J Tank
Oh my God...
The first one, offered on ebay, is wrong.
This is the J1 US version, which is much more round than the Lawson´s correct ones.
Also its much to expensive in my opinion.
The second one (German ebay Kleinanzeigen) is also a complete wrong one - this is for a 750 L3/L4 or R1.
The corrugations in the sheet metal are missing.
To pick up the correct gas tank in a resonable condition for a fair price is like to find the rare stamp Blue Penny these days...
And you´re right: try allways to find a tank with those tin stripes for the emblems...

If you're still looking I think I've got what you're after in my garage loft, I'll try and get up there and get some piccies for you tomorrow.

Great, I'll look forward to hearing from you!
Re: R/J Tank
Apologies for the delay.
Here's a couple of piccies of it.

No bother, better late than never!
I sent you a PM.
Looking at the pictures a bit closer it may be a diffrent tank. The fuel gauge fitting is more oval with two flat sides, this one is round, also hard to tell but the tap looks diffrent from that angle. I wont get a proper look at mine until Monday.
Thanks for posting pictures.
