900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Got my carbs dismantled down to individual bodies and parts to ultrasonic clean and renew parts.
Carbs have markings of Z12 00 / R65 , and are original to the bike. Been cleaned a few times over the last 40+ years I've owned it, but I have never renewed the needle jets/needles.
Bike has 50K miles on it now and appreciate I can get the Keyster kit for needles /needle jets but what's the thoughts on the need to do them.
How do you remove them? I have done my RD250 needle jets by heating the bodies up in the oven and pushing them up into the carb body , is it the same process for these carbs?
I am replacing all the main/pilot jets ( Genuine Mikuni via MotoCarb) , new intercarb tee pieces and intercarb hoses ,carb shaft grommets/end cap ( if I can source them) and new Viton choke plungers via Zed1015's Ebay shop. Anything else ?
Any info , help much appreciated.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Unless the jets are the wrong size or physically damaged i would leave the original Mikuni parts in.
The same goes for the rest of the brass internals and needles etc.
If the carbs are the fuel mixture screw type then the mixture screws may need replacing if they have badly worn or broken tips.
The only parts to change/replace are gaskets, float valves and all the old rubber, 'O' rings, plunger seals etc with their viton equivalents.
Ebay seller BbrBri sells the viton carb 'O' ring kits, fuel screws and the fuel Tee rubbers.
Most of his VM carb stuff is listed under Suzuki GS but most of it is the same for the Zeds.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Cheers mate , looked him up some good stuff there too.
Yep the Keyster gaskets I bought are in a mess but been on nearly 10 years now.
Like my RD 250 ( which has one of your Viton Choke plungers on it) , will stick with all genuine Mikuni parts including new jets from MotoCarb.
My Zed ones will be on there way to you on Monday once I buy some jiffy bags ( already done the Ebay part ) .
Thanks, very much appreciated.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Z1200 is the correct ID for the 26mm Mikunis for the Z900.
I'd recommend keeping the original jets/brass parts and needles if they are serviceable.
I have been using and selling Japanese Keyster kits and parts for 8 years now with zero issues. I would always use the original needles and needle jet if they are serviceable.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Thanks for confirming the carb I.D mark is correct.
Carbs been through first clean in the ultrasonic cleaner , will drop in the float bowls, tops and brass parts next.
New genuine Mikuni jets on order from Motocarb, ( Pilot and Mains) , some Viton rubber parts, choke plunger collars and mixture screws from the eBay seller Zed1015 recommended.
Noticed you sell Viton carb gaskets, will order them up from you, thanks.
Will check the Needles and needle jets but I am thinking they will be ok and serviceable.
Need the rubber grommets that go in the carb tops that the carb link shaft goes through , any source known for these would be greatly appreciated.
Part numbers 16039042 Blank rubber grommet & 92071104 rubber grommet with carb shaft hole.

No problem, I have loads of good used grommets if you don't want to purchase new.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Thanks very much, bought the genuine Mikuni ones new from NRP.
Yeah not cheap but I guess as I've owned my Zed for 45 years this will be the last overhaul on the carbs for the next 45 years ......and that wont be by me
Appreciate the offer though , ta.
Bought your float bowl gaskets just now, many thanks.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Need a bit of help here , looked at my float bowls and noticed inside one is stamped with number 1 , all the others have number 2. All 4 are stamped on the outside with number 100.
I don't think it matters other than having the drain screws pointing the right way ? or does number 1 have to on carb 1?
Another thing with VM26ss , I have never had an O ring on the emulsion tube, and cant see any in the part numbers or diagrams for them. Is it only later models that had the O ring fitted?
Any help or info greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Doesn't matter where the bowls go except to have the drain screw pointing outwards.
Some emulsion tubes use an 'o' ring and some don't.
The ones that take an 'o' ring have a groove between the hex and the thread.

Re: 900 A4 VM26SS carb overhaul
Thanks , good to know I was over thinking the float bowls fitting.
Yeah had saw a photo of some Z1000 carbs and they had the o rings fitted , haven’t ever had them fitted on mine , as you say it’s model specific. Will check out some other models diagrams for comparison.
Appreciate the reply , can get on with rebuilding them now .
