Hi All,
My ST is a kz1000 but im changing its spec to uk spec. When i bought it, i noticed it had been imported in 1980, so its spent all its life in this country. It has never been messed with so is still in American spec.
Im now in the process of Anglicizing it, have changed the rear indicator position, rear side reflectors to the plastic grills and speedo clock.
But now my Nemesis, the electrics. RH switch gear im replacing the blanking off plate for the switch arm for lights on/off. I dont like the bike lighting up like a Christmas tree when i turn the ignition on.
But not as simple as that, no park light in headlight, so need changing, 3 wires to indicators instead of 2, could just disconnect the feed wire from ignition i suppose, but dash comes on also. Is the ignition wired up differently?
Ive opened up a whole can of worms.
So the question is, am i better off trying to locate a uk spec wiring loom or can it be done as im trying to, and if so what else do i need to change to wiring to make it happen ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well that was easier than i thought, all done.
Re: Z1000 ST 1980 wiring
Did you end up retaining the original loom or did you change it? Either way, pleased you got it dome!
Re: Z1000 ST 1980 wiring
Had to replace the headlight lens to one with a park light, disconnected all the direct (blue) feed wires to the front indicators and dash board.
Remove RH switchgear and remove blanking plate for lights on/off, i had spare wiring for the switchgear but only fitted the 3 wires for the on/off switch along with the switch itself.
Removed the two corresponding brown wires from connect block (which are looped together) and replaced with mine from switch. The third (yellow) wire just connects back into main loom.
The hardest part was getting the 3 wires down the switchgear loom.
So if you wanted to anyone could just swap over the whole switchgear and cables and it would work as long as you replace headlight and disconnect feed wires to indicators and dash.
Easier than i thought, couple of hours work and its done.
