Dyna Coils and Leads ???

#1 PostAuthor: Foxfix » Wed Jul 16, 2025 3:49 pm

For a 1981 KZ1000 J/K/M Motor.
Are Dyna Coils and HT Leads worth the expense or not ?
Just trying to make the bike run as well as possible, not anything else.
What OHM rating is best ?
Thanks.

Kawasaki knew what they were doing. Just run with zero resistance caps and plugs. My fettled J doesn't miss a beat on stock coils.

My j has 1170 kit, hot cams, gsxr1100 carbs and other tuning work all done in 1985, and ran perfectly fine on original coils until I stopped riding it about 15 years ago. Just refurbished the bike and put dyna coils on and can't tell any difference (not that you really would). Time will tell how reliable they are but the ones that have been on my gsxr1100 for 30 years are still OK.

On my A2 I had a coil failure in 2015 (case cracked & looked like it was leaking its innards) so changed to Dyna coils & had been ok.
In 2024 I changed back to Z Power coils so back to completely standard set up and I can tell no difference.
I remember having to be super careful fitting the Dyna coils that the fitting posts are insulated from the low tension wires - you dont have this issue with the standard coils. Agree that Dyna coils are ok but the standard set up seems pretty good too and probably cheaper.
