Pigfords OLD effort......now JULES NEW PROJECT!!!!!
Moderators: KeithZ1R, chrisu, paul doran, Taffus
I would say Steven Cooke's right pigford had the same thing with a gs750 and cb550 when fitted bellmouths and kn's on the 550 turned the air screw full in and it didn't hang anymore and ran fine but if set the airscrew to 1-1.5 turns out the thing used to hang etc. so I would agree too weak on primary setup.

Explain "hangs up".
Stuttering missfire, does it clear with more throttle or less?
Can it be coaxed through it with the choke?
Does it happen when under load an driving or also in neutral?
Is it specific to a rev range or does it happen when rolling on the throttle at any revs?
Is it better when hot or cold?

Thanx for the replies lads.......
Rich, as Dodgy says...... it will idle nicely (all day long) until you give it a decent tweak on the throttle, & then the revs WON'T drop, just stays high (3000 rpm - guess) & stays there.......
May creep up after a bit but don't let it stay high coz it sounds like it may self destruct
I think i'd better re-check the manifold rubbers for leaks..... I did seal them with permabond sealent on assembly, but as I have had the carbs on & off loads of times they may have been disturbed
Especially over the cold winter - hard rubber....
The 36's off the black Z1000 is running 20 pilots with 140 mains......
In the 38's I did try 17.5 pilots, and 25's & 32.5's
Mains ranged from 135 - 145- 155- 165
GB, thanx for the kind offer, but the 36's where fine on me black Z1000, and the same problem occured using them instead of me recently purchased 38's....
But, I may be in touch

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
i just remembered i had a similar problem.
would start and idle on choke as it idled no prob tweak the throttle and the idle would stick at 3000rpm.
turned out the clamp on number 3 carb was hitting the throttle mechanism,
the bolt was stopping the carb from returning.
and it to me ages to figure it out.

I'd go for Kanos first if I were you, plus cable routing and associated twistgrip problems. Swapping the carbs should eliminate poor slide adjustment damaged parts etc unless you've done the same on each set!
Are your cables the right length and do you have some slack in them?
Do you have filters on or velocity stacks. Are the slides hitting the stop when shutting off?
Is the return spring strong enough. if you positively return the slides (do they have a spring mechanism AKA 28s and sbores) does the cable spring compress?
Oil the cables - you'll be amazed what a difference it makes, while you are doing it check out the twistgrip action.

Hi Kano...... Thanks again for nominating this bikes for the 'Bike of the Month'
I was down a Debbens today, & Ray sujested I do check cam timing & look for any air leaks (manifolds, valves not closing properly, valve clearances, cracks in head... etc)
Haven't had time to degree the cams in, so need to do that first.
I got another cam gasket off him as the one I have is wafer thin & not sealing too well
Once this problem is sorted, she's on the road....
