Z900 a4 oil sump removal
i am trying to remove the oil sump,so far i have removed the exhausts,oil & filter the 17 bolts so far all ok but the sticking point is the sump is holding on tight like it wont release tapping with a piece of wood and rubber mallet not budging,i want to check the pump oil strainer for oil sludge as have oil light on checked the wireing and oil pressure switch all ok there,any help or experience in this be much appreciated

A good whack or six sideways with a mallet will eventually shift it.

Double check you aint left a bolt in it does hapoen

cheers just keep whacking double checked bolts re moved i have all 17 as clymer manual states

Update got sump off found sump has a loose round diameter sponge 4mm thick same size as oil pump pick up strainer just lying in sump been there sometime as decomposed sponge what the f##k was that doing in there any ideas could that be why my oil light has been on checked strainer looks clean before i refit sump should i be looking any where else as sump is off and now clean got a new gasket and oil filter and Smith & Allen 10w40 semi synth oil.

personally i would leave the sump of & i would remove the cams & cam buckets & flush the oil ways through first before you re assemble also remove the pump & check the oil pump gears with feeler gauges as per genuine workshop manual

Sponge is a new one on me and i've seen all manner of bodges on these over the years.
Certainly shouldn't be there and would restrict oil flow if drawn onto the strainer.
Just make sure the pump strainer gauze isn't torn as that's the only reason i can think why someone would try that..
