Z1R - The Work Begins!

Fair to say that my garage was a bit cluttered! Much clearer after a ruthless day chucking out crap that I'd never use. Did a couple of hours on the bike today - some good news, some not so good after fourteen years of neglect! Any tips for freeing off the engine? What's the best procedure? anybody used plus gas or similar?

great stuff love it wouldn't even try to free it off just start at the top undoing bolts and get the head off see how bad it is im no expert but if you need advice etc please ask looks like you have a good basis there for a nice bike good luck with it Boyer ignition I see

Nice one mate - You're sharp! Boyer ignition indeed! The bike's only done 11900 miles from new and it was immaculate before I wrote it off - gonna have 'fun' getting it back to that but I'm up for it again (with a bit of help!!)

And anyway, it's much clearer now - I can see the end wall once again!

Nearly time for the engine to come out of the frame-looking at using PJ1 satin for the paint unless anyone can recommend anything better? Anybody used this on bare metal. if so, did you use an etching primer and did you use heat?

Don't bother with the PJ1, it is rubbish since the reformulation.
Use sperex/simoniz tough black satin or Wurth satin. It's near enough to the old PJ1.
No need for primer, just apply to clean bare ally.
Works best if you slightly pre heat the parts before spraying and even better if you can bake the parts after the paint has cured overnight.
I use the oven and grill when the missus is out

We always "do things" when our wives are out!!!

It is time we told our wives "If you're not happy with the parts in the oven, the engine on the table, the bike in the living room, the hairdryer getting used as a heat gun, the shower as a parts washer...........


Then get your clothes and FUKC OFF"!!!!

Use the TOUGH BLACK. It is branded both as Simoniz or Sperex in near identical labelled cans.
