Some goodies arrived today. Most important is the repairs head with all 8 studs now intact :)

I ended up sending it back to Debben's and Ray fixed it for free, got a cracking deal on the new gaskets etc and around 2 weeks from leaving France to being back in my garage. Can't ask for more than that..

Been cracking on refitting today and hopefully get fired up again tomorrow.

Thats a good result. I have this to come i suspect as i cant get my exhaust studs out and they are not that far from needing replacing!

Yep, that's good news! Are you leaving it (I assume) stock, or whilst it's off...

Coose, it's not stock, already has big valves, brass guides, ported & flowed, web cams etc. hence why I was so upset when the stud broke :( anyway back on track now. Just triple checking my timing again today at some point.

Nice! Definitely worth rescuing then rather than finding a replacement. :)
I'm watching as ever, and still hoping to get to Moto Coupés Légende...

Oh the fun never stops.. Two stripped cam cap threads today.. Both been Helicoiled already and fortunately both helicoils have been recovered so will be attempting to refit some new ones as soon as the arrive.. Fortunately Al has been ever helpful and that's calmed me down a bit. Shame I didn't read any threads on using a jig to install the cams before I started and reducing the torque Vs the manual but hey ho such is life.. :smile we live and learn.

Getting there.. Just completed second run in session as per Rays advice, still ticking loudly from the left side which needs further investigation!

That look grand Lee - is it staying red?

As well as the random cam knocking (new shells will be fitted at some point) mine has an intermittent tick too. I haven't yet pinned down from exactly where or what is causing it, but it only seems to happen when the motor is neither cold nor up to temp. Did you run yours until it was warm?

Hi Coose,

Yeah it was fully warmed up, I'm swaying towards it being electrical as Al had suspected but not had time to look at it this week as I've been on the road, next weekend will have time for a proper investigation.

On the Colours I have not finally decided. Originally I was going to go Lawson colours, but now the red is growing on me a lot and tempted to keep the standard colour scheme. I'm putting a bikini fairing on it but maybe that will look nice enough in original colours. Need to make my mind up soon as will have to get the bodywork dropped off for paint. Just waiting on fairing mountings and mudguard to arrive to test for everything first.

I vote for the original red!
My old Z400J was that colour and my current project (another Z400J) will be, if I can get it working again.
