Re: Z650 refresh...
Parts painted, and fitted, and a kick in the teeth as the oil tank doesn't fit any more thanks to the oil return fitting hitting a frame rail. Arse.
This, is combination with an imminent house move, apparent further chain clearance issues, and the need to buy new tyres for the Zed when I have no cash means there's little (ie zero) chance of it being done in time for the TT.

And the new garage, at last some space! But first it needs the walls painted white, and the floor painted too, then some racking / shelving put in place, and some decent lights instead of just two, and some electic sockets (again, instead of just two), and my work bench and storage cabinets need to be picked up from the old 'Shed of Dread', 130 miles away, and moved into this, already christened 'The Time Sponge'...

Photobucket rip-off bastards. It's obviously not enough for them that we have to endure a ridiculous amount of advertising and pop-ups, but now have to pay 400 dollars a year for the joy of doing so. Screw 'em.
The most frustrating thing is that the old pics are no longer visible either.

Nice looking lock up, well done. Could do with finding something similar myself.

Actually, I've discovered a way around the photobucket thing and I can now see the pics, so here's hoping that you lot can as well...

Re: Z650 refresh...
So, new year, and new found impetus for getting tings done. helped by the fact that I've laid a kitchen floor and won't get gripes about being in the garage again...After a lot of rooting through boxes and trying to find the 'safe place' where I put the bits that still need to be fitted, I finally found the Mikuni HSR.

Buoy'd with enthusiasm, I also found the clutch pack, and whipped off the cover to get it fitted...

Re: Z650 refresh...
Hang on, there's one in there already? How did that happen? I don't remember fitting it...
Hey ho, at least I can fit the clutch lock-up while the cover is off, right?

Re: Z650 refresh...
So that'll be a no. The lock-up is for a five bolt clutch, not the six bolt that I have...
I'm now wondering if I've got my lock-ups mixed up, as I'm sure I have another one somewhere that is supposedly for a GSX-R, maybe I got them confused? The problem is, I can't find it as it is also in a 'safe place'...
This isn't a case of one step forward, one step back. But more a case of several steps sideways...

Re: Z650 refresh...
Five bolt is for the earlier Z900/1015 pressure plate.
You would really be better off sticking an earlier steel basket in there too as they don't break when you put loads of power through them like the ally ones do.

Re: Z650 refresh...
Ah, that would explain it Rob, although I'm sure that I have a six bolt lock-up somewhere... I recall fitting one absolutely ages ago to see if it fitted okay behind the cover spacer. But maybe I dreamt that?...
So, anyone want to swap a super-dooper ultra-lightweight aluminium clutch basket with an outdated, heavy-as-pig-iron steel basket?...

Further frustration, as I decided that I'd fit the alternator gubbins, locating the stator and rotor easily enough. The issue then was that I couldn't find the ring gear, starter clutch and idler gear... I looked in every single box in the garage, and while I can remember exactly where the bits were when I emptied the garage before the house move, they're not with the other stuff that was in the same cupboard...

That happens to me all the time. It’s gremlins...
