I've started to gather a few parts for my next project... a 79 Mk2, which needs a rotor and stator. The stator is no problem, with Electrex having one in stock. But they don't list a rotor for the MK2 specifically, the one for the earlier models ends at 1978, while the only other rotor listed is for the later 1000J, Gpz11.
Meanwhile I've seen an ad for a used Rotor on Ebay (from D&K) which states it fits Zeds from 73 to 79. All a bit confusing.
My question is does the rotor from the earlier Z1000A1/2 fit the Mk2, or does the Mk2 have its own unique rotor, which no doubt will be scarce and expensive to find?

Early rotor is different to the MK2/ST.
MK2 has a dished rotor and also the crank taper is larger so the early rotor won't even fit the MK2 crank .
Later J rotors etc will fit but you also need the matching windings as they are a different diameter.

Thanks for the info... looks like I need a J stator and rotor too.

Hi Bevelhead
as stated before by zed1015 the Mk2 and the ST rotor are the same. The stator is also the same.
I'm not sure about the J rotor and stator being the same is those from the MK2. They have different partnumbers !!!
There are replacement parts available at CMS.NL . I have no experience regarding the quality but the price seems to be OK to me.
Just have a look and decide for yourself.

the differences between a little boy and an adult man is the price and size of their toys!

I understood that the later J rotor / stator while different from those on the MK2, they will fit the MK2 engine, if fitted together.
