Thinking of going to 530 for my Z1000A1 project bike - what's the availability, who does them, what are the pitfalls etc? I've only seen a couple of comments on here but it seems the front sprockets don't come with the necessary offset.
Also what options are there on teeth (and what is the equivalent to the std 15-33 tooth combo)?
Cheers

530 chain conversion from 630

Re: 530 chain conversion from 630
You want 18 front 40 rear or 19 front 42 rear.
What offset front do you need.
If the rear sprocket is 6 bolt then most later ZXR etc are the same fitment.
Search JT488 for the rears.

I'm running a std rear hub (Z1000-A1) so it's 6 bolt sprocket, but with a 17 inch rim, 4.25 width with a 150/70 tyre. Hence I want to compensate for the smaller wheel diameter reducing the gearing.
Clearance looks OK for the chain, so same offset as a standard one. Cool, didn't realise ZXR etc was the same fitment rear. If I can fit a 19 front that would be good - I'm using a Bandit swingarm and want to make sure the chain doesn't drag on it near the pivot (I haven't jacked the bike up particularly like some do, so it looks like it won't be an issue. I've only just recently fitted the swingarm and rear wheel for its first try.
Thanks

I run 17" wheels in all of mine and 530 sprockets too.
They are all 5.5 rear rims so 5/8th offset fronts.
I run both tooth counts as mentioned above .
If you calculate the ratio for the 17" wheel diameter it works out at 1.96-1 compared to 2.2-1 with the stock 18" but it makes no real difference in reality.
You do need the largest diameter front you can fit to clear the chunky modern arms and i also fit chain runners to stop chain rub..

Great, thanks so much for your advice on this. One other thing - which front sprocket is it that fits? A special, or one that's std fitment on another bike?
Looking at the JT catalogue, looks like Z500/Z550A has the correct splines and is for a 530. No offset though but I'm not sure if even need that, since I'm not running a 5.5" rim.

You can buy offset sprockets from Debbens , Talon and online.
The Z9/1000 use a Z13 spline which is the same for most Kwaks and Suzuki and some Hodnas so you should find something to do the job in the JT catalogue.
