Seems like the MK2 is in super high demand now.

Yep, there was/is a tidy modded shaft one on ebay that looked good, but chain ones (in the wine red scheme) seem few and far between

STs are a really good bike, but not very desirable and are dirt cheap as a result.
MK2s are getting pricy.

All MK2's are chain drive.
The shaft drives are ST's and have a totaly different frame and despite their passing similarity don't share too many common parts beyond 3/4's of the engine and a few other bits.
Even the bodywork is not the same and does not readily interchange.

Hi Dave

wish your friend all the luck he can get because he'll need it!
It took me 8 years to find one that was affordable and I had to go to Paris in order to buy it.

Indeed. Philippe did a good comparison on here.

Lots of differences in the 2 bikes, basically the engine is the same but is easy enough to covert to chain but Philippe has layed it all out before like a pro. The St frame is a way better frame to restomod super robust and requires little or no bracing, outside of a fairly custom swingarm pivot i had not much in the line of problems getting a gsf1200 swingarm in there with room to spare.
Angus.

Too many bikes to list.

Mk 2's were quite rare back in the day. When no one wanted them in the 90's the Japanese bought them , they were 1200 / 1500 pounds then. BAT M/c's in Biggin Hill bought them and shipped them . Their popularity in Japan is big and Sanctuary and the like have helped it big time.
