Kz1000 tyre size
Having the wheels rebuilt and wondering about increasing the width of rear. Has anyone done this to fit into a Metmachex swingarm. I realise that this means a new rim but best choice please allowing for chain run as well. Thanks.
Re: Kz1000 tyre size
The widest rim you can fit to a stock 900/1000 frame without scalloping around the swingarm pivot for chain clearance is 5.5 inch with 180 tyre and you will need a 5/8ths offset front sprocket if going that wide..
I tend to use modern swingarms such as XJR1300 or GSXR etc in my builds so don't know the max width a Metmachex will accept..

Re: Kz1000 tyre size
A 4.5 inch rim with a 160 looks plenty big on a Zed without going over the top. it also helps to have a 530 chain instead of a stock 630. Still need a sprocket offset.

Thanks chaps. So what would be the largest size , not using an offset sprocket. Sorry for silly questions.

Re: Kz1000 tyre size
I have a 150 on an aluminum 4.00/18 rim re-spoked onto the original hub with a zephyr 550 swing arm, there is good alignment with the front and rear sprockets and about 1cm of a clearance with the chain.

Yes I have to agree, I ran a 4.5" Akront rim with a 160 tyre, but I also matched it with a slightly larger width rim in the front too. Handles brilliantly too. Mind you it was a Moto-Martin
